Wedding Invite: Nicole + Kennan

A few posts ago I showed a few different wedding invite options for Nicole and Keenan's wedding. This is what they picked.

PS. Everyone should have a wedding/party at the Firehouse in Portland. It was so beautiful, cozy and the food was incredible.

Oregon: Climbing at French's Dome

French's Dome was a great place to climb in early November. The rock was cold, but not that numbing cold where you feel like your skin is splitting and you want to scream out bloody murder (I do that sometimes when I get cold).

You can find out more deets here on Mountain Project: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/frenchs-dome/105788992

Robbie and I hadn't lead climb before and the hope was that we would give it a shot here. The routes were nice and easy.  I believe we started with some 5.7s and 5.8s. After going up with the ropes, Robbie decided it was time to lead it. He did it like a PRO! I should have gone for it, but it was getting colder and windier. I'll try next time.

Taylor

(We bought that harness at a garage sale for $2... it worked!)

Robbie's first lead climb. He made it look easy peasy.

Nick

Jamie kept us all safe and secure!

Taylor makes climbing more fun for all of us. We've tried new climbs since he's moved into our Portland home.

Dia de los Muertos Wedding Invite: Elyse and Alex

Elyse is my younger sister who found a wonderful guy named Alex. They are getting married in November, the month were Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico. When they asked me to design the wedding invite, I was thrilled! I love designing invites, I love Mexico, and I especially love day of the dead!

Pinterest didn't have to much inspiration for deadly invites, so I looked at a lot of mexican folk art. Elyse and I came up with different ideas and we finally decided on a Mexican shadow box that opens up to little trinkets and skeletons in scenes. Of course, this would have to be 2D so it could fit in an envelope, so I got to work.

I used acrylic paint and did calligraphy for the words.

Arrived! Printed on velum to give it a sense of a shadow box, and some depth.
My hope was that it would look like an ofrenda on it's own, a day of the dead alter.

Dia de los Muertos 2015

We've been meaning to have a house warming party. September sounded like a good month... then it was pushed back to October.... and then it realistically seemed possible to have friends over November 1.

This was our fourth annual Dia de los Muertos ofrenda making. I don't know if this qualifies as a party but it felt festive.

To prepare, Robbie and I prepared an altar with flower garland, globe lights, cactus, fruit and a bunch of trinkets. I made 6 loaves of pan de muerto and Robbie made a gallon of Mexican hot chocolate. We had over 20 people come over! We asked everyone to bring a photograph or some kind of representation of a celebrity or character or object that is no longer in their life and they miss it. Everyone shared why it was significant to them. It was one of our best years yet.

Some of my favorites:
-Favorite lost sweater
-Imaginary parents when they were little
-Diapers (one of the kids were just potty trained)
-Mother's sleep-great mustaches
-Dreams of having a left handed catcher son
-Collage scooters
-Pro wrestlers
-Breaking bad
-Loving pets

Las Hermanas

I've got lots of best friends, but my sisters have always been there for me and will always be for me, it's just part of the rules right?

I feel so fortunate to be the oldest and have been able to witness all of them grow up. It's so cool to see all the directions we have gone in, our taste in husbands, our careers, what our hobbies are, what we like to learn, what type of music we like to listen to alone, or the music we like to dance to together. Las Hermanas = Party. Simple maths.

My parents found a home in Paradise California and will be moving in any day now. This was their house warming gift.

Las Hermanas at Maya's Wedding

I love my sisters. It's always a party when we are all together.

Photos: Maya + Marcel

Maya and Marcel got married last weekend and we are so happy for them! Congrats you love birds. They invited me and my sister Elyse to take some pictures of them a few days before their big big day so it could ease the schedule.

This is what we captured.
