Working on a Zombie Event for Details Austin.... and my only requirement is that I make it badass. This is on one side of the card.... I'm trying to make it look like Graffiti but I'm not sure it's working quite right.
Any suggestions? Ideas?
I'm going to try two other directions tomorrow - all the weapons you would use to kill a Mr. or Mrs. Zombie or just Zombie guts and stuff. Right up my ally. Can't wait.

Save the Date // Austin Style

This is my most recent project from Details Austin. An Austin Save the Date!
Pretty much all the illustrations are from the city landmarks, which the client requested, and their love story. It folds in half (hamburger style).

This was difficult project for me because there was soo much information. I prefer simplicity, but I think this turned out alright. I wish some things turned out differently, but I'm happy with it.

Mixing things up with Advertising

The whole point of advertising is to MAKE MONEY. Right? I mean, essentially, that's the purpose of every job on earth. That's why JOBS exist. Plus, providing a useful service.

BUT... creatives in advertising go into advertising to assist others to make money WHILE making a show stopping advertisement. Generally, you don't get clients that are excited to pay money for a risky creative idea. So the job can be a little... disappointing. You want to make great work, but people are too scared of you to hatch out of the cocoon and explode everybody's minds with your beautiful creativeness and be a bloggers inspiration for a topic of the day... (um. me)

I mean. There are many success stories of this happening, and you're lucky if you land an excited client who is willing to try new things. (BUT it can't be just any new point of view, it has to be the new, and improved, best point of view the client has ever had). A favorite of OURS (specially Rob Dog's) is Old Spice. They had decent ads.. but they made amazing ads, everyone talked about them, people would re-watch them, you looked forward to it "between these messages." Bravo Old Spice.

I have BRAVO's for two companies right now.

 Hello Flo (tampons.. that's right)

If you're like me, you think Cheerios are OK, and nothing special, just a cereal.
And if you're like me, you love this Cheerios Spot and did not even notice the biracial couple.
And if you're like me, you don't quite "get" the controversy.
There were many frustrated, and maybe even offended people by portrayal of the biracial family in this spot. I'm surprised this still being a hush-hush topic, because I'm sure that there are bajillionz of biracial families... including us. (Are we? I'm still not sure)

"The YouTube comments section for the ad, which had been viewed more than 1.7 million times as of mid-day Monday, was disabled late last week. "We are a family brand and not all of the comments were family-friendly," says Camille Gibson, vice president of marketing for Cheerios, in an emailed comment.
Perhaps the real issue it that it's no longer just edgy brands trying to portray the real American consumer, says Ken Smikle, president of Target Market News, a firm that monitors African-American marketing. "We think of Cheerios as a great American icon," he says. "There are going to be people who feel that their image of what's American is now being challenged by these iconic brands."

Because Cheerio's did this new thing, EVERYBODY is talking about it. Success story right here.

Hello Flo did some surprising stuff. Tweens saying V A G I N A. Whaaa? Unheard of! Ha. But loved this approach. It is new and fresh in the feminine hygiene adverting. Not talking about how  it's great when doing sports, or dancing, or leakage... please, just make a tampon that works, you don't have to say it works, it's just suppose to work OK? Thank you.

And that's why it went viral.

Free Time

I never thought I would complain about FREE TIME. I feel like normal people complain that they don't get enough.

I have a lot of time on my hands. I really need a new hobby. Any suggestions? SOS.

So I spend some of my time watching PROJECT RUNWAY online. I've seen 1 1/2 seasons. It kinda reminds me of the adlab and the short term projects we have to push out - and sometimes competing against my classmates. I can relate. I also watch TV... depressing news mostly.

And then I work on drawing skillz and crafts. I feel like I've gone a little downhill so it's time to toughen up and get moving. I want to be a better illustrator.
