Normally, you go on a beautiful day where the sun is shining and you wear shorts and a T-Shirt, but the only day we could do the hike, the forcast gave us rain, 100 kilometer winds and cold. The hotel we stayed at usually offers transportation to the hike, but they closed transportation because of the weather. Conditions were not ideal, but that didn't stop us.
As we were going up, we passed many people who turned around to go back. We really didn't understand what we were facing.
Pretty much, I've never seen anything like this. This was EXTREME HIKING, appropriate for New Zealand high adventure. Basically, on the top of the climb, we were on a ridge where there was a cliff on both sides, we were in a cloud, the wind was blowing so hard (I felt like I was a Husky in Canada and couldn't lift my head to see my next step), it was also freezing, the white cloud around us was moving like a fierce river.
I was wearing a t-shirt, a thermal, a hoodie, a little rain jacket, rain pants and was soaked to the bone. I was freezing.
I always believed heaven was on top of mountains, in the clouds, but if it is anything like this, I wouldn't mind being surrounded by fire.
That's the best description I can give. It was frightening, but the most exciting thing ever!
A perfect day to hike a mountain
Ready with wool socks to cover our hands
Oh yeah... and we look good.
Can't really tell, but there are water droplets all over her face
And this is when it got bad.
We held hands with fear of getting blown away
Leaning in the wind
